Saturday’s NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) – The NHL schedule is busy Saturday with 10 games including an afternoon showdown between the Montreal Canadiens and the host Pittsburgh Penguins.
Pittsburgh comes into play with a record 39-21-8 and is fourth in the Eastern Conference despite playing without injured stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. The Penguins are 21-11-2 in home games. Montreal has a record of 37-24-7 and have a road mark of 16-16-1. The Canadiens are currently sixth in the conference. Action begins at 2:00PM EST.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Penguins -130 favorites, while the over-under is 5. According to the latest trends, Montreal is 21-36-11 on over-unders this season while Pittsburgh is 22-42-4 on over-unders.
The Canadiens have won six of their last 10, but had a five-game winning streak snapped Thursday with a 4-1 loss to St. Louis. Pittsburgh is winners of two in a last, the last of which being a 3-1 home victory Tuesday over Buffalo.
The Penguins are led by Kris Letang offensively as he has accounted for eight goals and 38 assists. Tomas Plekanac paces the Canadiens with 20 goals and 32 assists.
In other NHL action Saturday, the Buffalo Sabres play at the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7:00PM EST. Buffalo is a -115 favorite and the over-under is 5.5. Vancouver travels to Calgary for a 10:00PM EST start. The Canucks are a -120 favorite and the over-under is 5.5. San Jose hosts the New York Rangers at 10:30PM EST. The Sharks are listed as a -170 favorite with an over-under of 5.5.
