Capitals vs. Sabres Pick
Can the Washington Capitals get the job done on the road today when they play the Buffalo Sabres at 3PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, the Capitals are listed as a -150 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Sabres are a +130 underdog, while the total is set at 6 goals. Washington opened as a -145 favorite before the line grew, while the total has moved up from 5.5.
As of Monday afternoon, 84 percent of public bets are coming in on the visiting Capitals. Online wager info also shows 68 percent of bets being placed on the over.
Buffalo actually won the first meeting this season by a count of 3-1 on its home ice back in November. But it hasn’t been a kind year to the Sabres at home, where they are only 8-17-3-1 on the season. While the Capitals aren’t spectacular on the road at 13-10-4-1, you have to side with them here as the better and more successful team.
Prior to the first meeting this season, Washington had won three in a row in the series and is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. The under has gone 4-3-3. The Capitals have lost three of their last four games and are 5-5 in their last 10. The over has hit in five straight games and is 9-1 over the last 10. Buffalo has lost two in a row and is 3-7 over its last 10 contests. The over is 7-3.
While the over is a perfectly acceptable play, weird things happen during day games and this could also go the complete opposite way and be a 1-0 finish. My feeling is that after Washington embarrassed itself last game with a 7-1 defeat at Chicago, it will look to come out firing on all cylinders here. Buffalo doesn’t have the manpower to slow down the Capitals when they are focused and in top form. Take the visitors here as favorites.
