Canucks roll past Avs
Vancouver improved to 24-22-6 on the season Saturday night with a 5-1 victory at Colorado. The Canucks grabbed a 1-0 lead only 1:32 in on a goal courtesy of Jake Virtanen as Antoine Roussel and Brandon Sutter drew assists. Brock Boeser made it 2-0 later in the first period on a goal assisted by Elias Pettersson. Roussel scored with 12:30 remaining in the second period with Bo Horvat and Virtanen assisting to put it at 3-0. After the Avalanche cut it to a two-goal game, Tyler Motte pushed it back to 4-10 with 4:43 left in the second with Troy Stecher assisting. Nikolay Goldobin added a goal in the third period on the power play off assists from Josh Leivo and Ben Hutton. Jacob Markstrom earned the win in net as he recorded 34 saves on 35 shots.
Flyers down Oilers in OT
Philadelphia won its seventh consecutive game Saturday night with a 5-4 overtime win at home over Edmonton. Nolan Patrick scored the game-winner 2:01 into overtime on assists by James van Riemsdyk and Travis Sanheim. Sean Couturier gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage in the first period on a power play goal, his 20th of the season. It was assisted by Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux. Edmonton proceeded to score the game’s next three goals, but a Giroux power play goal late in the second cut it to 3-2. The score was assisted by Shayne Gostisbehere and Voracek. The Oilers extended it back to 4-2 in the third period before a Travis Konecny power play goal assisted by Oskar Lindblom and Couturier made it a one-goal game again. Wayne Simmonds tied it up with 8:02 remaining on the power play with assists going to Giroux and Voracek. Carter Hart made 40 saves on 44 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Vancouver
The Canucks are 4-1 in their last five games versus a team with a losing record. Vancouver is 5-16 in its last 21 Monday games.
Philadelphia
The Flyers are 5-0 in their last five home games. Philadelphia is 1-4 in its last five games versus the Pacific Division.
Prediction:
Philadelphia isn’t exactly a strong team, but has clicked on all cylinders lately. It almost lost to the Oilers two days ago, so there might be some luck involved in keeping this streak alive. With Vancouver coming off a good performance, I see a good opportunity to come into Philly and steal another victory against a team that is perhaps too big of a favorite due to their recent play.
