JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -The Jaguars signed free agent guard Chris Liwienski on Thursday and waived quarterback Paul Smith.
Liwienski gives Jacksonville extra depth along the offensive line following the loss of center Brad Meester, who is out indefinitely after injuring his right biceps.
Liwienski started 14 games at left guard for Miami last season. He spent the 2006 season in Arizona after eight years in Minnesota where he played for former Vikings coach and current Jaguars assistant Mike Tice.
Smith signed with Jacksonville as an undrafted rookie free agent from Tulsa in April. Without Smith, the Jaguars have quarterbacks David Garrard, Cleo Lemon and Todd Bouman on the roster for training camp.
