JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith says he is ashamed and humiliated by an arrest on drug charges.
Smith said in a statement Friday that he will seek help to overcome his addiction. Smith was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of crack cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. His is free on $11,500 bail.
The statement did not identify Smith’s addiction.
The Florida Highway Patrol says Smith was pulled for excessive window tint on his 2009 Mercedes Benz. A trooper said the inside of the car smelled like marijuana and began searching the vehicle.
Smith retired from the Jaguars in 2006 after playing from 1995 to 2005. He finished with 862 receptions and 12,287 receiving yards and 67 touchdowns. He was a five-time Pro Bowl selection.
