Giants sign Cruz, SB odds stay steady
NEW YORK, NY (The Spread) – The big news today in the NFL is that the New York Giants have signed wide receiver Victor Cruz to a new contract but the deal hasn’t impacted the team’s Super Bowl odds for next season.
According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Giants agreed to terms with Cruz on a six-year, $45.879 million contract that includes $15.6 million in guaranteed money. The Giants now have their slot receiver under contract through his age-31 season and he’ll be able to hit free agency in 2019. The deal is for far less than the $10 million-per-year that Cruz was reportedly seeking.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv currently list the Giants’ 2014 Super Bowl odds at 22/1, which are the same odds as they had before they signed Cruz today. The 49ers remain the favorites to win this season at 6/1, while the Broncos are 13/2 and the Seahawks are 8/1. The Patriots, meanwhile, are 9/1 to win next year’s Super Bowl and the Packers are 12/1.
Following the signing of Cruz, Hakeem Nicks sounded “very lukewarm” about re-signing with the Giants since preliminary extension talks broke off. According to the New York Daily News, initial talks between New York and Nicks’ agent “went nowhere.” Cruz’s deal could hamper discussions even further, as could the emergence of 22-year-old old Rueben Randle, who has showed promise early in his career.
At 22/1, the Giants currently have the best odds to win the Super Bowl of any team in the NFC East. The Cowboys and Redskins are both 33/1, respectively, while the Eagles 40/1.
