Cowboys in no rush to deal Romo

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Cowboys are in “no rush” to resolve the Tony Romo situation.

Rapoport notes that Romo doesn’t have a bonus in his contract which would require the Cowboys to make a decision by a certain date. That’s an important factoid seeing as how deadlines often spur action. With no bonus set to kick in, the Cowboys can take their time deciding whether or not they want to keep Romo, trade him, or release him so that he can choose the next team he plays for.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Cowboys are now 11/1 to win the 2018 Super Bowl, listed behind only the Patriots (11/2) in terms of the best odds in the league. The Falcons, Packers and Seahawks are next on the list of odds at 12/1, respectively.

Even though the Cowboys are committed to Dak Prescott as their franchise quarterback, they’re in an advantageous spot when it comes to Romo. Releasing him won’t provide immediate cap relief since they’re expected to designate him as a post-June 1 cut. And the longer they hold onto him, perhaps the more desperate another team will get when it comes to solving their quarterback dilemma.

With the Bills expected to move on from Tyrod Taylor this offseason, Buffalo remains an interesting landing spot for Romo, as does Denver, Chicago and New York (Jets). The Houston Texans may also get involved in the Romo sweepstakes if they’re comfortable paying both him and Brock Osweiler next season. Stay tuned.
