2011 NFL Point Spread: Chargers vs. Raiders Week 17 Odds & Totals

Chargers vs. Raiders Week 17 Odds

OAKLAND, CA (The Spread) – The Raiders have multiple chances to make the playoffs but not if they don’t take care of business this Sunday versus the Chargers.

SAN DIEGO: The Chargers kissed their slim postseason hopes goodbye with their dud performance in Detroit last Saturday. Their 38-10 loss to the Lions dropped their record to 7-8 and eliminated them from playoff contention. With nothing to play for, the Bolts will look to ruin the Raiders’ playoff hopes this Sunday and perhaps save Norv Turner’s job. Of course, many pundits believed he was down three weeks ago so maybe nothing will keep the Bolts from handing Turner his pink slip at the end of the season.

OAKLAND: Richard Seymour saved the Raiders’ season by blocking Kansas City’s game-winning field goal attempt last Saturday. Oakland went on to beat the Chiefs 16-13 in overtime to improve its record to 8-7 on the year and its ATS record to 9-5-1. The Raiders now must beat the Chargers and hope that the Broncos lose to those same Chiefs so they can clinch the AFC West crown. If Denver wins, Oakland would have to beat San Diego and hope that Baltimore beats Cincinnati in order to clinch the sixth and final spot in the AFC.

ODDS: Oddsmakers have installed the Raiders as 3-point favorites over the Chargers, while the over/under total for Sunday’s game is currently sitting at 47 points. San Diego enters the week with a 7-8 overall record and is 2-5 on the road this year, while Oakland is 8-7 overall and 3-4 at home.

TRENDS: The over is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams in Oakland but the under is 9-4-1 in the last 14 meetings. The Chargers are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine trips to Oakland but 0-5 ATS in their last five meetings with the Raiders overall. The underdog is 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings between these two teams while San Diego is just 1-4-1 ATS in its last six divisional games.
