2011 NFL Odds: Giants Mid-Range Long Shots to win 2012 Super Bowl

New York Giants 2011 Season Odds

(The Spread) – Do the Giants have enough to take down the loaded Eagles in the NFC East?

Oddsmakers currently list the Giants as 25/1 long shots to win the 2012 Super Bowl, placing them in the same odds group as the Texans and Bears. New York is also 12/1 to win the NFC and +300 to win the NFC East, which gives them the second-best odds behind the Eagles at –140. (It should be noted that the Cowboys are also +300 to win the NFC East.)

The Giants addressed their secondary with the selection of Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara in the 2011 NFL Draft. Seeing as how Amukamara could have went in the top 15 (if not the top 10), the Giants may have gotten a steal at No. 19. (Although he recently broke his foot, so his status for the 2011 season is currently up in the air.) The Giants also went defense in the second round with the selection of North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin, then went offense in round three by selecting Troy receiver Jerrel Jernigan.

While the Eagles were busy throwing money at Nnamdi Asomugha, Ronnie Brown, Vince Young, Cullen Jenkins, Jason Babin and the Giants’ own Steve Smith, New York was rather quiet this offseason. The G-Men did re-sign running back Ahmad Bradshaw defensive linemen Mathias Kiwaunka, but they had very little cap space to do much else. They did sign free agents Ben Patrick (Cardinals), Stacy Andrews (Seahawks), and Gabe Watson (Cardinals).

Outlook: It’s kind of hard to figure the Giants out. They certainly have enough talent on both sides of the ball, but Eli Manning’s inconsistency leads some to doubt whether or not he can lead New York back to the Super Bowl. The Giants should be good defensively, however, which will certainly make them competitive in the tough NFC East. But do they have enough to beat the Eagles? Time will tell. There’s no doubt that this team will be in the mix for a playoff spot this year but when you look at other rosters around the NFC, the Giants may not stack up.
