The Washington Redskins hope that they can build off of some of the success they had in 2008 and possibly make a run in ’09.

The Skins made the biggest moves of the offseason, signing massive defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who was regarded as the best free agents on the market. They also re-signed cornerback DeAngelo Hall and signed guard Derrick Dockery, who returns to Washington after a brief stint in Buffalo.

In the draft, Washington found outstanding value at the thirteenth overall pick, selecting Brian Orakpo from Texas, who was considered one of the best pass rushers in the entire draft. Orakpo is expected to play both linebacker and end at the next level.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have established the Redskins’ odds to win Super Bowl XLIV at 25/1. They’ve also given Washington 12/1 odds to win the NFC and 5/1 odds to win the NFC East.

The Redskins are an intriguing team because as they proved last year, they do have a talented roster. That said, they were incredibly inconsistent last year and that’s why they finished 8-8 despite having the talent to possibly make a playoff appearance. If quarterback Jason Campbell can bounce back from an offseason of being snubbed and by owner Daniel Snyder, Washington has enough talent on both sides of the ball to be competitive. But can they win in a stacked NFC East? Some things have to come together, but Haynesworth is going to help the defense in a huge way (assuming his play doesn’t fall off after he got paid, that is) and Washington could be a potential sleeper. Considering that oddsmakers gave the Skins the same 25/1 odds to win Super Bowl XLIV as the Tennessee Titans, there’s obviously something to like about Washington.
