Titans Season Odds
After a great 2008 season, the Tennessee Titans are hoping that they can take the next step in 2009 and make a Super Bowl appearance.
The Titans were active this offseason, re-signing kicker Rob Bironas and quarterback Kerry Collins, as well as franchising tight end Bo Scaife. They also signed free agent defensive tackle Jovan Haye to replace Albert Haynesworth (who departed to Washington via free agency) and wide receiver Nate Washington, formerly of the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have established the Titans’ odds to win Super Bowl XLIV at 25/1. They’ve also given Tennessee 12/1 odds to win the AFC and 2.5/1 odds to win the AFC South.
Oddsmakers must feel as though the Titans did it all with smoke and mirrors last year, because a team that had the No. 1 seed in the AFC last year getting 25/1 odds to win the Super Bowl is pretty generous. But Tennessee did lose a significant piece off last year’s team in Haynesworth, who was a dominant force in the middle of the Titans’ defensive line. Still, the Titans return phenomenal playmaker Chris Johnson, who should once again put up great numbers under Jeff Fisher and company. Collins also remains a steady presence in the Titans’ offensive backfield and the addition of Washington should help the passing game. If Haye can fill Haynesworth’s shoes (or at least come close), then Tennessee’s defense should once again be a major strength and there’s no reason to think that this team can’t win the AFC South again, even though the Colts are still strong and the Texans are steadily improving.
