Week 4 Betting Recap
Here’s a breakdown of who covered and who didn’t in Week 4 of the 2009 NFL season.
Away favorites have been solid this season, covering 60% (12-8) of the time so far. Favorites are covering 58.33% (35-25-1) of the time, while home favorites are covering at a similar rate (57.50%, or 23-17-1).
Browns fail to win, but cover against Bengals
Cincinnati beat Cleveland 23-20 in overtime thanks to a key scramble by quarterback Carson Palmer in the extra period, but the Bengals failed to cover the 6-point spread as road favorites. The combined 43 points went over the posted total of 37.5.
Titans once again fail to cover
The Tennessee Titans have been brutal both on the field and for bettors thus far this season. Their 37-17 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday dropped them to 0-4 on the season and they haven’t covered since a Week 1 loss in Pittsburgh. With the Colts coming up in Week 5, the Titans may once again fail to cover for bettors.
Broncos stay undefeated, cover as home dogs
The Denver Broncos are playing as good as anyone in the league, especially defensively. Denver beat the Cowboys 17-10 on Sunday while covering as 1-point home underdogs. (Most sports books offered the Broncos at +3, however.) The combined 27 points went under the posted total of 43.5.
Steelers cover for the first time in ’09 with win over Chargers
The Steelers beat the Chargers 38-28 on Sunday night and covered for the first time all season as 4.5-point favorites. San Diego made things close in the fourth quarter when it got within a touchdown of the Steelers, but Pittsburgh put the nail in the coffin with a Jeff Reed-field goal late in the game.
