49ers vs. Rams Total Prediction
The L.A. Rams still need to wrap up a first-round bye and can do so on Sunday with a win over the San Francisco 49ers. Will both offenses show up for the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff or is the under a great play for bettors?
Game Snapshot
331 San Francisco 49ers at 332 Los Angeles Rams
4:25 p.m. ET, Sunday, December 30
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, California
Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Rams are 10-point favorites to beat the 49ers. The total, meanwhile, sits at 48.5 points. As of this writing, 62% of the public betting tickets are on the Rams to cover the point spread.
San Francisco 49ers
Marquise Goodwin (calf, Achilles’) is not practicing Wednesday. Goodwin was injured on the final play of the game in last Sunday’s loss to the Bears. He’d previously battled the calf problem. Goodwin was a non-factor ever since Dante Pettis entered the picture as the No. 1 wideout, but with Pettis hurt last week, Goodwin had to come in the game. Pettis is already out for Week 17. Kendrick Bourne could be the Niners’ top WR this week.
Los Angeles Rams
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Rams could hold Todd Gurley (knee) out of Week 17. Gurley surprisingly sat out Week 16 after not feeling great in pre-game warmups. Especially after C.J. Anderson exploded for 167 yards against the Cardinals, it makes some sense for the Rams to keep Gurley sidelined again this week to ensure he is as close to 100 percent as possible for the playoffs. If that happens, Anderson will be on the RB1 map against the 49ers in the season finale.
NFL Betting Trends
San Francisco
The over is 5-2 in the 49ers’ last seven games played in the month of December and is 6-2 in their last eight games versus an opponent with a winning record.
Los Angeles
The over is 5-1 in the Rams’ last six home games and 7-3 in their last 10 games played in December.
Prediction
The over is has cashed in four of the last five meetings between these two teams in L.A. Jared Goff got off to another sluggish start last week against the Cardinals but then settled in after that and played more like the quarterback that we saw for the first three months of the season. These two teams are familiar with each other, both have defenses that are prone to give up big plays, and both have scoring potential given how good Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan are in terms of play-calling. I like the over.
NFL Week 17 Prediction: 49ers/Rams over 48.5
