Falcons vs. 49ers Free Pick
The 49ers have made a change at quarterback but will it matter? Blaine Gabbert and Co. will host the Falcons as underdogs today at 4:05PM ET.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the 49ers are 7.5-point home underdogs versus the Falcons today and the total currently sits at 44.5 points. San Francisco opened as 4-point underdogs but after it was announced that Gabbert would be replacing Colin Kaepernick under center, the line jumped in favor of Atlanta.
The Falcons enter play with a 6-2 record but are 4-4 against the spread while failing to cover the number in four straight games. The 49ers, meanwhile, are 2-6 overall and 3-5 at the betting window, failing to cover as an 8-point road underdog last Sunday in St. Louis.
The Falcons shouldn't and wouldn't be favored on the road against most teams right now, but the 49ers are an absolute mess. Atlanta turned the ball over four times in the first half alone in its loss to Tampa Bay last Sunday but the Falcons did move the ball at will. They also put together an impressive rally in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 20-20 and send the contest into overtime before eventually falling, 23-20. Assuming they can hang onto the ball today, the Falcons should roll. They seemingly ironed out their issues offensively (again, outside of the turnovers) and they'll face a 49ers team that has one of the least efficient defenses in the league. Gabbert doesn't give the Niners any better a chance to win than Kaepernick did. And after trading tight end Vernon Davis, perhaps management is trying to lose in order to start over with the No. 1 pick next season. The Falcons should find the cure to what ails them today in Santa Clara.
