Chargers vs Giants Pick
The New York Giants are in desperate need of a win and hope it’ll come in Week 9 when they host non-conference rivals the San Diego Chargers at 4:15PM ET.
The Chargers narrowly beat the Raiders 24-16 in Week 8 as a 16-point favorite. LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 56 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Philip Rivers threw for 249 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the win.
The Giants lost their third game in a row last week with a 40-17 defeat to the Eagles in Philadelphia last Sunday. Eli Manning threw for 222 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for the Giants, while Kevin Boss had three receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown. The Giants failed to cover as 2-point favorites.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGLOBAL.com have made the Giants 5.5-point favorites over the Chargers in Week 9. The over/under total for this game has been set at 48 points.
A couple of trends to consider for this game is that the Chargers are 9-4 straight up in their last 13 games and 4-2 straight up in their last six games on the road. The Giants are just 2-3-1 against the spread in their last six games at home.
Pundits and bettors alike keep waiting for the Giants to shake off their recent funk, but we don’t think it’ll be anytime soon. A team playing as bad as the Giants are right now shouldn’t be 5.5-point favorites over any team, especially a team like the Chargers with a decent offense.
San Diego’s defense hasn’t been consistent all season, but New York simply can’t move the ball right now through the air. Their running game hasn’t been as potent as it has been either, and Eli Manning has been horrible the past three games.
Our free pick for this matchup is the Chargers +5.5 We think San Diego will play inspired knowing that their division rivals, the Broncos, have a tough matchup on Monday night against the Steelers. We could see an outright win for San Diego.
Our pick for the total is the over, as the total has gone over in eight of San Diego’s last 12 games. The total has also gone over in five of San Diego’s last six games on the road.
