According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, the Bears are the clear favorite in this game, as Chicago is getting odds of -8 points against the Jets. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 42.5 points. The public betting for this game currently has 74 percent going on the Bears at home. Bears defense starting to slip.
The Bears have lost two straight since coming off the bye, falling in OT to the Dolphins and then falling to the Patriots at home last week. Chicago is now 3-3 on the season, 3-3 against the spread and 4-2 with the over. They have hit the over in three straight games.
Chicago has been pretty good at defense thanks to its pass rush. The Bears are giving up 22.3 points and 368.8 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing just 87.5 yards per contest. However, they have given up 59 points over the last two games. The unit has 19 sacks and has created 17 turnovers for the year. On offense, Chicago is putting up 28.3 points and 396.3 yards per contest. Mitchell Trubisky has thrown for 1,594 yards and 13 touchdowns with six interceptions. The team could be without top receiver Allen Robinson, who is dealing with a groin injury and listed as questionable. Jordan Howard remains the leading rusher with just 311 yards and two scores.
Jets beat down by Vikings
The Jets had their two-game win streak come to an end last weekend in a 37-17 loss at home to the Vikings. The Jets are now 3-4 on the season, 3-4 against the spread and 5-2 with the over. They have hit the over in four straight games.
New York is averaging 26 points per game on offense, but posting just 343.6 yards per contest. Injuries have started to pile up on offense as Bilal Powell went on IR with a neck injury and receivers Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa are both dealing with ankle injuries. Enunwa is out this week while Anderson is questionable. Sam Darnold has thrown for 1,552 yards with 10 touchdowns, but also has 10 interceptions. Isaiah Crowell is leading the offense with 459 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
NFL Betting Trends
Chicago
The Bears have hit the under in five straight against a losing team and in five of their last seven following a loss.
New York
The Jets have hit the over in five straight games in October and in nine of their last 12 games following a loss.
Prediction:
The total is pretty low for two teams that have been trending with the over recently. The Bears have an offense that is really starting to hit its stride and the defense gets to face a rookie QB without a lot of weapons, so turnovers are likely. That can give Chicago a short field for some easy scores. The Jets will get to play catch up early, so I do expect some garbage touchdowns in the second half to help push the two over the total.
