Chargers not impressing
Los Angeles came into the season with some big expectations, but are off to a 2-2 start after a narrow win at home over San Francisco last week. The Chargers are 1-3 against the spread and 4-0 with the over.
The Chargers are having success on offense, averaging 27.8 points and 413.8 yards per game. Philip Rivers is having another great season so far, throwing for 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Melvin Gordon has run for 276 yards and two scores and also has 199 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, the Chargers are struggling, allowing 30 points and 397.5 yards per game, including 288.3 yards per game through the air. The unit continues to be without top pass rusher, Joey Bosa, who is dealing with a foot injury and is out until November.
Raiders seek win streak
The Raiders started the Jon Gruden-era Part II on a slow start, losing their first three games. However, they were able to earn a 45-42 OT win over the Browns last week at home. Oakland is now 1-3 overall, 2-2 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
Oakland is having a strong offensive year so far, averaging 452 yards per game. Although, it is resulting in just 24.3 points per game. Derek Carr has thrown for 1,373 yards and six touchdowns, but also has seven interceptions. Tight end Jared Cook has 26 catches for 370 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Marshawn Lynch has rushed for 300 yards and three scores. Defensively, Oakland is one of the worst in the NFL. The Raiders are giving up 30.8 points and 412 yards per game. The trading of Khalil Mack appears to be haunting them as the Oakland defense has just five sacks.
NFL Betting Trends
The Chargers are just 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
The Raiders are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine road games and 0-6 ATS in their last six games following a win.
The Chargers are not a team with much of a home-field advantage. In fact, I would expect more Raiders fans than Chargers fans in the stadium today. The Chargers have underwhelmed all year and are 0-2 ATS at home this season. Oakland certainly hasn’t looked great either, but I think the Raiders ride the momentum of their first win to a cover today. This game should be close and I think the Raiders can take it outright.
