Eagles vs. Lions Pick
With an extra week of rest, will the Philadelphia Eagles impose their will defensively on the Detroit Lions this Sunday?
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Eagles are favored on the road on Sunday, as they are getting odds of -3 points against the Lions. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 46 points. The Eagles have won seven of the last nine meetings with Detroit and the two have hit the over in five straight encounters.
The Eagles are coming off the bye week but enter this game at 3-0 on the season and 3-0 against the spread. They have hit the under in two of three games thanks mostly to the defense. Philly comes into this game allowing just 9 points and 298.3 yards per game. They rank third in the NFL in yards allowed per contest and first in fewest points per game. The unit has 10 sacks and six turnovers in three games. Their strength has been stopping the run, allowing just 71 yards per game on the ground. When it comes to offense, Philly is putting up 30.7 points and 375.7 yards per game. Carson Wentz has been all Philly could ask for at quarterback, as he has thrown for 769 yards and five touchdowns without an interception.
The Lions are coming off a 17-14 loss in Chicago for their third straight loss to fall to 1-3 on the season. The Lions are 2-2 with the total so far in 2016. Last week was pretty surprising as their offense has been moving the ball well but really struggled against a poor Chicago defense, posting just 263 yards against the Bears. The Lions are now averaging 23.8 points and 391.8 yards per game on offense. The Lions don’t have much of a ground game with Ameer Abdullah on IR. Matthew Stafford has thrown for 1,198 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the team, but now has four interceptions on the season after throwing two last week. Defensively, the Lions are banged up and giving up 25.5 points and 397 yards per game. The team could get Ezekiel Ansah back this week, as he has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.

Oddsmakers think this should be a pretty high scoring game, but I look back at what the Eagles did to the Steelers two weeks ago, holding them to just three points. This Philly defense is legit and DC Jim Schwartz will want to embarrass his former team in the Lions. Don’t look for much offense from Detroit. With that said, the Eagles aren’t likely to put up 40 points in this one, so our pick is the under in a lopsided contest.
