Atlanta Falcons DFS Spin
Marcus Mariota completed 17-of-26 passes for 196 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in the Falcons’ 31-27, Week 2 loss to the Rams. He added 16 rushing yards on six carries as a runner. Mariota mixed good with bad, tossing touchdowns to Drake London and Olamide Zaccheaus but was picked at the goal line trying to hit Bryan Edwards in the second half. It was a back-breaker with the Falcons trying to come back after almost erasing a 28-3 deficit. Mariota is what he is, and that’s a mere bridge quarterback who isn’t going to have big numbers in the box score. Mariota will be a back-end QB2/3 for Week 3 against the Seahawks.
Seattle Seahawks DFS Spin
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the team needs to open up the passing attack. This could an intricate, long-term trolling of former franchise QB Russell Wilson, or it could be desperation in the face of offensive struggles in the young season. “After two weeks of watching Geno play, we don’t need to hold him back at all,” Carroll said Monday. “Geno has got his game ready to go. We need to trust him and maybe give him more opportunities and stuff. We’ve been pretty solidly conservative, counting on running the football.” Seattle is actually seventh in pass rate over expected on first and ten this season — a departure from their run-heavy ways during the Wilson era. Smith, for his part, has been serviceable under center, with a league-high 81 percent completion rate for two touchdowns and an interception. A commitment to the pass could make Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf useful as WR2/3 options while Seahawks running backs would lose almost all their fantasy appeal. When asked what a more wide open Seahawks passing offense would focus on, Carroll said the team has to “make sure the ball is going to DK down the field.” Metcalf so far this season has been used as a short-area target, diminishing his fantasy prospects.
