Titans edge Texans
The Titans lost their opener at Miami, but bounced back last week with a 20-17 win over Houston at home. They are 1-1 against the spread through the two games while splitting the over/under total as well. They have hit the under in three of their last four, dating back to the preseason.
Tennessee has not looked very good on offense this year, averaging just 20 points and 313.5 yards per game. However, injuries have really impacted them. Already without Delanie Walker, both starting tackle Taylor Lewan and quarterback Marcus Mariota were out last week with injuries. Mariota has an elbow injury that has him day-to-day for this game. Mariota had just 103 yards and two interceptions in its opener. Blaine Gabbert played last week and has 234 passing yards on the year. Defensively, Tennessee is giving up 22 points and 404 yards per game thus far. Their pass defense is allowing 270 yards per game.
Jags hammer the Pats
The Jaguars avenged their AFC Championship loss to the Patriots with a 31-20 win at home last week. Jacksonville is now 2-0 with wins over the Pats and Giants. They have covered the spread in both while splitting the over/under.
Defense has maintained a high level of play for the Jaguars this year, as they are giving up just 17.5 points and 327 yards per game thus far. They have four sacks and three turnovers forced through two games. After a sluggish offensive showing in Week 1, the Jags looked much stronger last week. Blake Bortles had one of his best games as a pro and has 552 passing yards with five touchdowns on the year. He also has run for 77 yards. Leonard Fournette has seen limited action so far due to a hamstring injury and he is listed as day-to-day for this game.
NFL Betting Trends
Tennessee
The Titans have hit the under in four straight division games and in five of their last seven conference contests.
Jacksonville
The Jaguars have hit the under in nine of their last 12 conference games, but have hit the over in 11 of their last 16 home games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the over in four of their last five meetings, but I don’t think a lot of points are going to be put up. Jacksonville could have a let down, but I still think the Jags’ defense is too strong for the Titans. Tennessee is beat up and not showing much chemistry thus far. Tennessee isn’t a dominant defense, but I don’t see the Jags putting up 31 points like they did against the Pats. Bortles should came back to Earth a little bit and the Titans should make scoring difficult for them on Sunday.
NFL Prediction: Titans/Jaguars Under 39.5
