Are the Falcons the current team to beat in the NFC? The odds suggest they are.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Falcons are 33/10 favorites to win the NFC Championship this season. The team with the next-best odds are the Cowboys at 5/1, followed by the Seahawks at 5/1. The Packers, who lost to the Falcons on Sunday night, are 11/2, while the Vikings are 10/1.

The current long shots in the NFC are the Redskins at 50/1, the Rams and Saints at 60/1, respectively, and the 49ers and Bears at 250/1, respectively. New Orleans, San Francisco and Chicago are all 0-2, while Washington and Los Angeles are both 1-1.

The three biggest questions facing the Falcons entering the season were 1) Would their offense suffer with Steve Sarkisian taking over play-calling duties from Kyle Shanahan, 2) Would their young defense improve, and 3) Would they suffer a Super Bowl hangover.

Well, they're 2-0 to start the season, their offense ranks 3rd in the NFL in offensive efficiency according to Football Outsiders, and their defense is 18th (they were 26th a year ago). Granted, it's early and they were just dealt a significant blow with Vic Beasley (hamstring) being lost for the next month. But given the issues facing the Cowboys (defense), Seahawks (offensive line) and Packers (injuries), the Falcons have been the most impressive team in the NFC through the first two weeks of the season.
