According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, the Texans are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -3 points against the Titans. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 43 points. Titans drop opener
The Titans had a marathon game at Miami, suffering a 27-20 loss that saw a pair of weather delays. The Titans were a 1-point favorite going into the game, but managed to go over the 43.5-point total. The Titans have failed to cover the spread in six straight.
Tennessee put up 336 yards of offense in the loss but suffered some big injuries. Tight end Delanie Walker was put on IR due to an ankle injury while starting tackle Taylor Lewan left with a concussion and will not be available today either. Marcus Mariota also had to leave the game with an elbow injury, but is probable today. Mariota threw for 103 yards and had two interceptions while rushing for 15 yards. Dion Lewis led the team in rushing with 75 yards on 16 carries.
Houston struggles with the Pats
The Texans suffered a 27-20 loss at New England on the road in Week 1. Houston was a 6-point underdog going into the game while going under the 49.5-point total. Houston is 2-7-1 against the spread in its last 10 games.
In the loss to the Patriots, the Texans gave up 389 yards to the Patriots and put up 325 yards of offense themselves. Deshaun Watson made his return to the field after a knee injury ended his season last year. He threw for 176 yards and a touchdown on 17 of 34 passing. He also rushed for 40 yards. Lamar Miller was the leading rusher with 20 carries for 98 yards.
NFL Betting Trends
Tennessee
The Titans are 15-40-4 against the spread in their last 59 conference games and 8-26-3 ATS in their last 37 games against a team with a losing record.
Houston
The Texans are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games in Week 2 and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a losing record.
Prediction:
The Texans were faced with a tougher opener than Tennessee, so Houston seems more capable to bounce back. Tennessee not only lost to an unproven Miami team, but suffered some major injuries on offense. Those injuries should have an impact this week as the Houston pass rush should be able to get after Mariota and he is without his safety valve at tight end. I see Houston winning comfortable in this game.
