Raiders Season Win Total Prediction
The Oakland Raiders have received plenty of hype this offseason as a potential playoff sleeper. But will they live up to said hype?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Raiders’ over/under for wins in 2016 is currently sitting at 8.5. The team is also 25/1 to win Super Bowl 51, is 12/1 to win the AFC Conference Championship this upcoming season, and has odds of +220 to win the AFC West Division as well.
A Look Back
The Raiders finished in third place in the AFC West with a 7-9 record in 2015. Inconsistency plagued the team, as it started 2-1 before finishing with a 2-3 record heading into its bye. Then Oakland won both games coming off the bye to get to 4-3 before losing three in a row to the Steelers, Vikings and Lions, respectively. The Raiders wrapped up their 2015 campaign with a 3-3 record over their last six games to reach 7-9 on the year.
A Look Ahead
The Raiders made a significant move in free agency by signing former Ravens guard Kelechi Osemele, who joins Donald Penn, Rodney Hudson, Gabe Jackson and Menelik Watson to form one of the more underrated offensive lines in the league. The team also invested its first and second-round draft picks this past year in safety Karl Joseph and defensive lineman Jihad Ward to help boost the defense, plus signed former Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin.
OUR PICK: The Raiders should be one of the better bets to win over their total in 2016. Not only does this team have a solid offensive line, Derek Carr looks ready to take that proverbial next step in his development and he’s surrounded by solid playmakers in Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree and Andre Holmes. The defense also has a chance to improve with the additions the front office made this offseason. Khalil Mack is a rising star and should only keep getting back now that he’s headed into his third season as a pro. Nine wins should be the floor for this team in 2016.
