Betting Odds & Public Betting Information
According to oddsmakers, the Eagles are 3-point favorites to beat the Steelers while the over/under currently sits at 33 points. As of this writing, 56% of betting tickets are on the Eagles to cover the spread. (Check out Week 1 NFL Preseason Odds)
Pittsburgh Steelers
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin expects Antonio Brown (quad) to return to practice after the first preseason game. Brown was back with the team on Tuesday, but he did not practice and will not suit up for the preseason opener. Tomlin expects him back after that, however, and it would be a surprise if he is not back practicing by this time next week. Despite the injury scare, Brown remains the top fantasy option at receiver.
Philadelphia Eagles
NBC Sports Philadelphia expects Carson Wentz (knee) to be held out of the entire preseason. Wentz has been limited to individual drills since July 28. Coach Doug Pederson thought he saw “a little hesitation” in Wentz’s knee on July 29. “It’s frustrating,” Wentz said Tuesday. “Obviously, getting a chance to get out there and everything, I felt great, it was fun to be out there, but again just trusting what the doctors are saying.” Wentz still appears to be on track for Week 1, but the Eagles could take it down to the wire before officially clearing him.
Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Steelers have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five games against the Eagles.
Philadelphia
The home team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings between these two teams.
Prediction
Tomlin has already confirmed that Brown (quad), Ben Roethlisberger (rest) and tight end Vance McDonald (foot) will not play and running back Le’Veon Bell is holding out. The Eagles are unlikely to play most of their starters too and with that much star power out on both sides, I like the under.
NFL Preseason Prediction: Steelers/Eagles under 33
