Updated 2014 Super Bowl Odds
(The Spread) – Oddsmakers have updated the odds for the 2014 Super Bowl and following the first week of free agency, the defending champs are tumbling backwards.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Ravens are currently 20/1 long shots to win next year’s Super Bowl. The Broncos and 49ers remain favored at 7/1, respectively, while the Patriots are 15/2. The highly active Seahawks are 10/1 after acquiring Percy Harvin, Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett last week.
“A week ago the Super Bowl champs were sitting comfortably at 14/1 to repeat, which was in the top 5,” Sports Book Manager Kevin Bradley of Bovada.lv said. “Now they find themselves at 20/1 and may even drift some more if they keep dumping players without acquiring any significant replacements for them.”
The Ravens have already lost linebackers Dannell Ellerbe (Dolphins) and Paul Kruger (Browns), as well as safety Ed Reed (Texans). They also traded 2013 postseason hero Anquan Boldin to the 49ers in exchange for a late-round pick in next month’s draft.
The team that has made arguably the biggest splash in free agency is the Dolphins, who not only acquired Ellerbe, but who also signed receivers Mike Wallace and Brandon Gibson, tight end Dustin Keller, and linebacker Philip Wheeler to free agent contracts. They also re-signed wideout Brian Hartline to a new deal.
“The Miami Dolphins have been my biggest move dropping from 60/1 to 35/1,” Bradley said. “The Seahawks getting Harvin has moved them slightly from 12/1 to 10/1, but I’m still holding the 49ers as co-Super Bowl favorites alongside the Broncos at /1.”
