Cowboys to tag Dez Bryant?
DALLAS, TX (TheSpread) – Dez Bryant stands to make a lot of money one way or another this offseason. Will the Cowboys be forced to franchise the star receiver?
According to reports out of ESPN, the Cowboys are “leaning” toward using the franchise tag on Bryant and they have until March 2 to do so.
“Right now we’re probably leaning that way,” team vice president Stephen Jones said of using the tag on Bryant, who is an unrestricted free agent. “But that doesn’t mean it won’t change. We’ll probably wait ’til the midnight hour to make that decision.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Dallas Cowboys are currently listed with 12/1 odds to win the Super Bowl next season. Seattle is the favorite with 11/2 odds while the Patriots have 6/1 odds.
Bryant caught 88 passes for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He now has 381 receptions for 5,424 yards and 56 scores. For the Cowboys to franchise Bryant, it will cost them around $13 million. Dallas is coming off a 2014 season that saw it go 12-4 and win the NFC East before losing in the second round of the playoffs in Green Bay.
