Rice arrested, Ravens’ SB odds steady
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (The Spread) – On the same day that the team extended Terrell Suggs’ contract, the Ravens got some bad news regarding their starting running back.
Per the Atlantic City Police Department, Ray Rice struck his fiancee in a domestic dispute at the Revel Casino before his 2:50AM arrest for simple assault-domestic violence early Saturday. His fiancee, Janay Palmer, was also charged with simple assault-domestic violence as the two reportedly “used their hands” to strike each other. This is Rice’s first reported arrest as a pro or college athlete.
Both Rice and Palmer declined medical attention and neither reported any injuries.
Michael Diamondstein, an attorney for Rice, says that he’s hopeful that after an investigation ”the matter turns out to be little more than a misunderstanding.”
Rice played at Rutgers University in New Jersey and was drafted in the second round of the 2008 draft by the Ravens.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Ravens’ 2015 Super Bowl odds haven’t budged since the opening odds were released. They opened as 40/1 long shots and that’s where their current odds sit. The Seahawks remain favored to repeat as Super Bowl champs at 11/2.
Rice averaged a career-low 3.08 yards per carry in 2013 but new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak spoke recently about how he wanted to get the running back kickstarted again. “I think as he goes, we’ll go,” Kubiak told BaltimoreRavens.com.
