(STATS) – Austin Peay is set to hire Mississippi State tight ends coach Mark Hudspeth as its new head coach, according to reports.
Hudspeth, 50, would replace Will Healy, who resigned after three seasons to become Charlotte’s new coach.
Hudspeth compiled a 66-21 record at North Alabama from 2002-2008, leading five of his seven teams to at least the NCAA Division II quarterfinals.
Following two seasons on the staff at Mississippi State, Hudspeth became the head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette and went 51-38 with five trips to the New Orleans Bowl over seven seasons. However, he was fired after the 2017 season, partly due to NCAA violations incurred when a former assistant provided improper benefits to players. The Ragin’ Cajuns vacated 22 wins from 2011-14.
This year, Hudspeth returned to Mississippi State as part of coach Joe Moorhead’s staff.
Austin Peay, a Ohio Valley Conference member, turned around under Healy, including a 5-6 record this year.
