AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Texas President Bill Powers has issued a statement of “full support” for football coach Mack Brown after the Longhorns finished 8-4 in the regular season and didn’t qualify for a BCS bowl for the third consecutive year.
Writing on his university blog Thursday, Powers said Brown will remain the Longhorns coach and dismissed what Powers called media speculation that Brown’s job was in jeopardy.
Powers said Brown also has the full support of athletic director DeLoss Dodds. Powers lauded Brown’s 15-year tenure, which includes two Big 12 championships and the 2005 national title.
Texas has dipped sharply since the playing in the 2009 season national championship game. The Longhorns are 21-16 the last three seasons.
The Longhorns play Oregon State on Dec. 29 in the Alamo Bowl.
