COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Larry Shipp scored three touchdowns Thursday night to help Tennessee Tech beat Cumberland University 45-21.
Shipp, who had four catches for 84 yards, broke the school record for receptions and scored the first TD of the game with a kickoff return of 87 yards.
Tennessee Tech (1-1) piled up 430 yards of total offense on the neighboring Bulldogs (0-1), who compiled 335 yards.
Golden Eagles’ running back Derek White had a career high in rushing with 213 yards and a touchdown, the sixth best in school history.
The Bulldogs tried to muster a threat late in the first quarter when Matt Eads delivered a 52-yard pass to Ervin Young. But Tennessee Tech’s Justin Kraemer kicked a 46-yard field goal minutes later, and the Golden Eagles went on to lead 31-14 at the half, a commanding lead they never relinquished.
