BOSTON (AP) -Boston College promoted Bill McGovern to defensive coordinator after nine seasons as linebackers coach.
McGovern takes the job previously held by Frank Spaziani, who was promoted to head coach Jan. 13 after Jeff Jagodzinski was fired.
McGovern helped run a defense that was ranked in the top 10 nationally in seven categories last season, including a national-best 26 interceptions.
Since Spaziani became head coach, three other former assistants have resigned, including offensive coordinator Steve Logan and tight ends and special teams coach Don Yanowsky. Jack Bicknell Jr. left to become assistant offensive line coach of the New York Giants.
