Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Tigers are 2.5-point favorites to beat the Huskies. The total, meanwhile, sits at 48.5 points. As of this writing, 59% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Tigers.
Washington Huskies
Seattle Times’ Adam Jude believes Washington sophomore WR Ty Jones will be one of team’s leading receivers. Jude continues by saying that Jones “has the most upside” among their pass-catchers. Washington coach Matt Lubick gave his thoughts on Jones and said “Last year, he was a true freshman and he was thinking instead of playing, which is typical of a freshman. Now he knows what he’s doing, so his athletic ability is starting to come out. I love his vibe and he’s made a lot of plays for us.” Jones has a lot of potential this season in an offense that projects to be good with Jake Browning at the helm.
Auburn Tigers
Auburn junior WR Sal Cannella will start out of the slot in Saturday’s opener against Washington. Cannella (6’5/232) joins Nate Craig-Myers, Ryan Davis and Darius Slayton as part of Auburn’s starting corp at wideout. As can be obviously noted, he’s pretty big for a slot receiver, having actually joined the Tigers as a tight end out of the JUCO ranks last year. He caught three passes in his first season of FBS ball, but figures to be more heavily folded into the offensive attack this time around.
Betting Trends
Washington
The over is 4-0 in the Huskies’ last four games overall and 7-3 in their last 10 non-conference matchups.
Auburn
The under has cashed in four of the last four Auburn games and is 12-3-2 in the Tigers’ last 17 non-conference games.
Prediction
I see this one being a defensive slugfest. Yes, Washington has an experienced offense thanks to Jake Browning and Myles Gaskin and yes, Auburn has some weapons as well in Jarrett Stidham and a loaded receiving corps. That said, the Huskies lost Vita Vea but returns every other lineman, boasts a deep linebacking corps and also has a couple of key cornerbacks returning from injury. On the other side, under Kevin Steele, Auburn’s defense has been one of the top-10 units in the nation. This one should be fun on Saturday but I see the score falling short of the total.
College Football Week 1 Prediction: Washington/Auburn under 48.5
