Oregon gives Helfrich an extension
EUGENE, OR (TheSpread) – Oregon has had two pretty good seasons under coach Mark Helfrich and the Ducks look like they want more, as they agreed to an extension with the coach on Monday night.
Helfrich and Oregon agreed to a new five-year $17.5 million contract extension that will take the coach through the 2019-20 season.
“Mark has provided tremendous leadership of our football program and the values and character that he insists upon are in line with our mission as an institution,” Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens said in a statement. “The success of our student-athletes on the field and in the classroom will continue with Mark’s leadership and we are thrilled that he will stay at home in Oregon for a long time to come.”
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Oregon has 25/1 odds to win the 2016 college football playoffs, Ohio State is the current favorite with 9/2 odds, while TCU currently has 8/1 odds to win.

Helfrich has been the coach at Oregon for the past for two seasons, going 24-4 overall with a 15-3 in the Pac-12.Oregon was 13-2 last season and 8-1 in the Pac-12, winning the conference title. The Ducks beat Florida State in the Rose Bowl in an impressive showing before losing to Ohio State, 42-20, in the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Oregon was led by quarterback Marcus Mariota, who went on to win the Heisman Trophy. Mariota has since declared for the NFL Draft, leaving the Ducks with a big question mark under center for 2015.
