Six-straight seasons of 10-win football hasn’t produced a national championship for Virginia Tech, but will 2010 be a different story for the Hokies?

Frank Beamer has built Virginia Tech into a national power and now he enters his 24th season with the Hokies looking to finally grab his first national title.

This season, Va-Tech has eight starters back on offense, including quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who had 2,311 yards passing and 370 yards rushing with 18 total touchdowns.

Taylor
returns his stud running back, Ryan Williams, who was a Freshman All-American in 2009 after rushing for 1,655 yards and 21 touchdowns. Williams has three starters back on the offensive line, but the Hokies have to replace the left side, which could be a problem early in the season.

At receiver, the Hokies returns their top six leading receivers from 2009, led by Jarrett Boykin, who caught 40 passes for 835 yards and five touchdowns.

On defense, the Hokies bring back just four starters from a unit that allowed 15.6 points per-game.

One player that is back is cornerback Rashad Carmichael, who had six interceptions and 55 tackles in 2009.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL currently list Virginia Tech with 18/1 to win the 2011 BCS National Championship. The Hokies are also listed at 7/2 to win the ACC and 3/2 to win the ACC Atlantic Division.

The 2010 schedule for TCU is rather tame with a season opener at home against
Oregon
State
and a road trip to SMU and

Utah
as the only real dangers. A home game with BYU in the middle of the year will be tough, but the Horned Frogs handled the Cougars rather easily in 2009. TCU has a real shot to make a run to the title game but its loss to

Boise
State
last year could keep some voters from giving them a chance. If you believe TCU can run the table, it may be worth putting your money on them in a 1-game situation.
