The TCU Horned Frogs were an upset away from playing for the BCS National Championship in 2009. Can TCU make it all the way in 2010?

After a 12-0 regular season with included wins over Clemson, BYU, and
Utah, TCU was No. 3 in the BCS polls and just needed an
Alabama or

Texas
loss to sneak into the title game. But, that didn’t happen and the Horned Frogs lost to Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl.

This season, Gary Patterson is back for his 10th season as coach and he returns nine starters on offense, including quarterback Andy Dalton, who threw for 2,756 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2009.

Dalton
has four starters back on the offensive line and his top four receivers back from 2009.

At running back, Matthew Tucker will get the start, but will share carries with Ed Wesley and

Dalton
. Each rushed for over 500 yards in 2009.

On defense, TCU allowed just 12.8 points and 240 yards per-game in 2009 and it returns seven starters from that unit including three All-Mountain West honrees and a second team Freshman All-American in Tanner Brock, who had 32 tackles at linebacker in 2009.

The Horned Frogs do lose leading tackler Daryl Washington and sack leader Jerry Hughes, but the defense should still be among the best in the country.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com currently list TCU at 19/1 to win the 2011 BCS National Championship.

The 2010 schedule for TCU is rather tame with a season opener at home against
Oregon
State
and a road trip to SMU and

Utah
as the only real dangers. A home game with BYU in the middle of the year will be tough, but the Horned Frogs handled the Cougars rather easily in 2009. TCU has a real shot to make a run to the title game but its loss to

Boise
State
last year could keep some voters from giving them a chance. If you believe TCU can run the table, it may be worth putting your money on them in a 1-game situation.
