Michigan Season Odds

It’s do-or-die in 2010 for

Michigan
coach Rich Rodriguez, who needs to not only get the Wolverines to a bowl game, but in contention for the Big Ten title.

Bet College Football Future Odds

Rodriguez has not had the success many had expected him to at

Michigan
as he is 8-16 in two seasons and 3-13 in conference play.

Michigan
has never failed to reach a bowl in back-to-back seasons until Rodriguez took over.

This season,

Michigan
brings back 15 starters, seven of which come on offense. The big question for the Wolverines on offense will be at quarterback where Tate Forcier isn’t a slam dunk to start as Denard Robinson has shown improvement and incoming freshman Devin Gardner is highly touted.

Michigan
returns three members of the offensive line and five of their six leading receivers from 2009. In the running game,

Michigan
will turn to Fitzgerald Toussaint, an redshirt freshman that hasn’t seen a college carry.

Defensively,

Michigan
allowed 27.5 points and 393 yards per-game last season, but a young defense got a year older coming into 2010. Six of the front seven starters are back, led by middle linebacker Obi Ezeh, who was honorable mention All Big-Ten with 69 tackles.

Michigan
will be young in the secondary, starting two new starters along with a sophomore at safety in Jordan Kovacs that started last season.

Michigan
was -12 in turnovers, so the defense will have to find a way to get takeaways this year for the Wolverines to be successful.

Another concern for

Michigan
will be in special teams, where it is replacing both its place kicker and its punter.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL currently list

Michigan
as 50/1 long shots to win the 2011 BCS National Championship. The Wolverines are also given 12/1 odds to win the Big Ten.

Michigan
has pretty light schedule out of conference with the long highlight being a game at Notre Dame in week two. An opener at home with

Connecticut
could be big for Rodriguez as he needs a fast start. The conference schedule is pretty tough with road games at Penn State and Ohio State this year. Given the struggles, it is hard to see

Michigan
vying for the BCS title. They need to start by worrying about qualifying for a bowl game.
