Miami Season Odds

Randy Shannon has slowly built

Miami
into a national title contender and 2010 may be the year that the Hurricanes win it all.

Shannon has won two more games than his previous season in his three years with

Miami
and now with a high-profile quarterback like Jacory Harris, it is easy to see why many see the Hurricanes as one of the favorites in the ACC.

Harris broke out in 2009 as he threw for 3,352 yards and 24 touchdowns in arguably the toughest schedule in the nation. This year, Harris returns his top five receivers from last season and also his top two rushers, making the

Miami
offense a very scary team on paper.

The big concern on offense will be the offensive line, which replaces three starters, but Harris’ mobility should allow him to escape a few sacks as the offensive line comes together.

On defense, the Hurricanes bring back seven starters, including two First Team All-ACC selections in defensive end Allen Bailey and cornerback Brandon Harris.

Bailey had seven sacks to lead the

Miami
defense in 2009 while Harris had 58 tackles with 15 pass deflections and two interceptions.

The

Miami
defense has five of its front seven back including both defensive ends, so pressure on the quarterback should be a strength this year.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com currently list

Miami
at 20/1 to win the 2011 BCS National Championship. The Hurricanes are also listed at 5/2 to win the ACC and 3/2 to win the ACC Coastal Division.

Once again
Miami has a loaded non-conference schedule with games at
Ohio
State
and
Pittsburgh and a season finale with in-state rival
South Florida. Still, the Hurricanes get home conference games with

North Carolina
and Virginia Tech but will need to win at Clemson and Georgia Tech. Miami has the talent to win it all on paper, but the schedule just seems to tough to overcome. The Hurricanes could possibly slip into the BCS title game as a 1-loss team, but it will likely need to run the table, which we don’t think it can do.
