Florida Season Odds

The Tim Tebow era is officially over at

Florida
and now the Gators must find a way to contend for the 2010 BCS National Championship without him.

Urban Meyer has won two national titles while at

Florida
, but never without Tebow on the roster. After a mini-retirement of his own at the end of last season, Meyer decided to comeback and coach his sixth season with

Florida
.

Despite losing Tebow, the Gators have plenty of talent to work with. Junior John Brantley is expected to takeover at quarterback. Last season Brantley threw for 410 yards and seven touchdowns in limited action.

Brantley has Jeff Demps back at running back. Demps led the Gators in rushing from the running back position with 745 yards and seven scores. Chris Rainey is also back after rushing for 575 yards and catching 10 passes for 161 yards.

The offensive line returns four starters, including second Team All-American center Mike Pouncey. The receiving corp. has been depleted as the Gators lose four of their top five receivers from 2009, but Deonte Thompson is expected to step up. He caught 24 passes for 343 yards and four scores in 2009.

On defense,

Florida
brings back five from a unit that allowed just 12.4 points and 253 yards per-game. Four of the top five tackles and four of the top six sack leaders are gone from the 2009 roster.

The defensive leader will likely be AJ Jones at linebacker. The senior had 37 tackles, three sacks, and three interceptions in 2009. Also looking to step up is senior safety Ahmad Black, who had 70 tackles and five pass deflections last season.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com currently list

Florida
with 16/1 to win the 2011 BCS National Championship. The Gators are also listed at 5/2 to win the SEC and 6/5 to win the SEC East Division.

Florida
has a lot of question marks heading into the year with a new quarterback, new receivers, and questions about the dedication of Meyer to his job after almost stepping down at the end of last season. Add to thank a schedule that features road trips to Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida State along with games against Georgia and LSU, and it is tough to see the Gators running the table or even suffering just one loss to play for a national title. Given all the changes and the tough schedule, we would suggest staying away from

Florida
this year.
