Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl Prediction

Army vs. North Texas Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl Predictions 12/27/16

Is Army a good bet to cover against North Texas when the two teams clash in the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl at 12:00PM ET today?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Black Knights are now 11-point favorites over the Mean Green after opening as an 8.5-point favorite when the bowl spreads were first released. As for the total, the number hit the board at 49 and has been bet down to 48.5.

ARMY KEY TRENDS: The Black Knights have covered in six of their last seven games played in December and have been a solid neutral site play as well, covering in four of their last five games on neutral ground. They’re 9-4-1 at the betting window in their last 14 games versus Conference USA opponents as well and have covered in six of their last seven games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.

NORTH TEXAS KEY TRENDS: The Mean Green have covered in four of their last five non-conference games and are 6-2 against the number in their last eight games versus Independent programs. That said, they’re just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games overall, are 1-4 against the number in their last five games coming off a loss of more than 20 points, and are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game.

OUR PREDICTION: This is a revenge spot for Army, which actually fell to North Texas 35-18 back in October. That was the Black Knights’ first home loss of the season but I like them to rebound here. North Texas lost four of its last five games to finish under .500 on the year, so the Mean Green are fortunate to be in a bowl game. They allowed 219.5 rushing yards per game this season to finish 105th in the nation in that category, which is going to be a problem versus an Army ground attack that ranks second in the nation at 327.7 YPG. The Mean Green are also allowing 32.2 points per game and rank 102nd in the nation in points per game offensively, averaging 24.2. Defensively for Army, the Black Knights rank fourth in the nation in total yards allowed, are fifth in passing yards allowed, 20th in rushing yards allowed and 13th in points allowed. Army isn’t giving up 35 again to the Mean Green.
