Georgia Southern seeking program win

Georgia Southern hasn’t been the most consistent team either, but the Eagles have won four of their last six coming into the bowl game, including a 38-10 win over Georgia State in the season finale. Georgia Southern is 7-5 on the season, 5-7 against the spread and 8-4 with the over.

The Eagles haven’t been great on either side of the ball. Their offense manages to put up 29.2 points per game despite averaging just 333.7 yards per game. The defense allows 28.6 points per game despite allowing just 377.3 yards per contest. Offensively, Georgia Southern puts up only 72 passing yards per game. It’s a run-heavy offense with Shai Werts rushing for 676 yards and five scores while throwing for 704 yards and nine touchdowns. J.D. King is the leading rusher with 776 yards and eight scores, while Wesley Kennedy III adds 760 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Liberty finds its way to bowl game

The Liberty Flames didn’t show much consistency this season, playing a very scattered independent schedule. They won just two of their last five games to end the regular season. Liberty was 7-5 this season while going 6-6 against the spread and 6-4 with the under.

The Flames were a pretty solid offense this season, averaging 33.7 points and 442.5 yards per game, including nearly 300 passing yards per game. Defensively, Liberty struggled. The Flames gave up 29.1 points and 422.5 yards per contest. Quarterback Stephen Calvert has thrown for 3,393 yards and 26 touchdowns to lead the offense. Antonio Gandy-Golden is his top receiver with 74 catches for 1,333 yards and nine scores. Frankie Hickson leads the ground attack with 921 yards and 12 touchdowns rushing. Jessie Lemonier leads the Liberty defense with 72 tackles and 8.5 sacks.

College Football Betting Trends

Georgia Southern

The Eagles are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a cover, but 16-7 ATS int heir last 23 games following a win of more than 20 points.

The Flames are 17-7 against the spread in their last 24 games as an underdog and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games on grass.

Georgia Southern has only appeared in two bowl games in program history, but the Eagles have managed to win both. Today they draw a Liberty team that is making its first bowl appearance. Liberty has had a pretty interesting schedule and their offense is definitely something to contend with, but my concern for the Flames is their lackluster defense, especially against the run. Georgia Southern can pound the rock and expose running lanes and I think the Eagles will do just that in this game. I expect a lot of breakout runs and points in this one, with Georgia Southern setting the pace.
