According to the latest oddsmakers, Toledo is the slight favorite at home, as the Rockets are getting odds of -2.5 points against NIU. The over/under total is listed at 54 points. The public betting currently has 65 percent going on Toledo as the home favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
NIU throttled at CMU
Northern Illinois is coming off a 48-10 loss at Central Michigan back on Nov. 12. The Huskies are struggling this year, going just 3-6 on the season, 2-3 in the MAC, 5-4 against the spread and 5-4 with the over.
Usually known for defense, NIU hasn’t been nearly as strong this year. The Huskies are giving up 27.9 points and 375.1 yards per game this year. On offense, NIU is putting up 23.2 points and 364 yards per game. Ross Bowers is leading the team with 1,947 passing yards and six touchdowns, but has eight interceptions. Tre Harbison is leading the ground attack with 741 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while Cole Tucker has 32 catches for 483 yards and a score.
Toledo staying in the mix
Toledo has won its last two games over Eastern Michigan and Kent State by a combined five points to stay in the MAC title race this season. Toledo is now 6-3 overall, 3-2 in the MAC, 4-5 against the spread and 5-4 with the over.
The Rockets have put up a pretty strong offense this year, averaging 29.1 points and 450.2 yards per game. However, the Toledo defense is allowing 28.6 points and 467.9 yards per contest. Injuries are a concern right now, as quarterbacks Mithcell Guadagni and Carter Bradley are both questionable for this game due to undisclosed injuries while leading rusher Bryan Koback is questionable with a leg injury. Guadagni has been the leading passer with 1,099 yards and eight touchdowns while Koback has rushed for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns. Bryce Mitchell is the team’s leading receiver with 22 catches for 431 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Northern Illinois
The Huskies have hit the over in five straight against winning teams and in four straight conference games.
Toledo
Toledo has hit the under in nine of its last 10 Wednesday games, but the over in five of its last seven MAC outings.
Prediction:
Defense has been the story when these two meet, as they have hit the under in seven straight encounters. However, I would expect the offenses to shine on Wednesday. Even with the Toledo injuries, the Rockets have still shown an ability to score, especially at home. NIU’s defense has struggled on the road as well, allowing at least 36 in two of their last three away from home. The NIU offense should be able to put up points as well, as Toledo’s defense is all about giving up yards. They gave up over 30 points at home to both Eastern Michigan and Kent State.
