North Carolina vs. Duke Prediction
Can No. 17 North Carolina go on the road and take care of its rival, Duke, when the two meet tonight at 7:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, North Carolina is favored on the road, as the Tar Heels are getting odds of -11 points against Duke. The over/under total for the game has been set at 67 points. North Carolina has won eight of its last 10 meetings with Duke and the Heels have covered in two straight encounters.
North Carolina is coming off a 48-20 win over Georgia Tech last week. The Heels are now 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in the ACC. The Tar Heels are 6-3 against the spread this season, having covered in the straight. UNC is led by its powerful offense, as the Heels are averaging 34.2 points and 459.7 yards per game. Their pass game is putting up 306.8 yards per game as Mitch Trubisky has thrown for 2,707 yards and 19 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Ryan Switzer has caught 70 passes for 728 yards and three touchdowns. The run game has Elijah Hood and T.J. Logan, who have combined for 1,150 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Defensively, UNC is giving up an average of 26.2 points and 410.2 yards per contest. They have really struggled against the run, allowing 221.8 yards per game.
Duke is coming off a 24-21 loss to Virginia Tech at home. The Blue Devils are 3-6 on the season and 0-5 in the ACC. The Blue Devils are 6-3 against the spread on the season and they have covered in four straight. The Duke offense is averaging just 24.1 points and 398.9 yards per game while the defense is giving up 23.9 points and 393.8 yards per contest. Daniel Jones has thrown for 2,037 yards and 11 touchdowns, but also has nine interceptions. Jones has also run for 375 yards and five scores. Jela Duncan and Shaun Wilson have combined for 899 rushing yards and nine scores. However, Duncan injured his Achilles and will miss the remainder of the season. Duke will also be without second leading receiver, Anthony Nash, who has injured his collarbone.
Duke has managed to keep games competitive, losing each of their last three by 10 points or less to the likes of Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Louisville. North Carolina has been rolling right now, winning their last two by double figures. The question in this game is if the UNC pass game can run roughshod over Duke. I think the Heels will manage to do so, even on the road.
