Stanford Cardinal

Stanford redshirt sophomore QB K.J. Costello completed 34-of-43 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday's 41-38 loss to Washington State. Strong, strong effort by Costello and the rest of the Cardinal in this one. They just so happened to end up with the hot potato at the end of the fourth quarter. The redshirt sophomore threw three of his four touchdown passes in the first half, quieted in the third quarter and then came on for a huge game-tying touchdown toss to J.J. Arcega-Whiteside from 25 yards out with under two minutes remaining in the game. Alas for the home faithful, Wazzu would proceed to go ahead on a field goal, one which Stanford was unable to answer. This was Costello's first game with multiple touchdown passes since the first game of the campaign. He'll have to fight it through against UW's tough secondary next weekend.

Washington Huskies

Washington HC Chris Petersen told reporters at his press conference that senior QB Jake Browning is "absolutely" his starting quarterback for Saturday. This should be an obvious point, but it was a worthwhile question to ask after Browning was bench for two series in the 12-10 loss to the Golden Bears on Saturday. Petersen said the benching was more about the offense than Browning, which is a weird thing to say. His replacement, redshirt freshman Jake Haener, threw a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown. The Huskies can still win the Pac-12 North if they win out, but they need Browning -- and the rest of the offense -- to play much better.
