Houston vs. Southern Methodist Prediction

Houston Cougars vs. Southern Methodist Mustangs 11/1/18, Prediction & Odds

The Houston Cougars have displayed a high-octane offense all season and will see another high total Saturday night when it travels to play at Southern Methodist. Will Houston do enough of the heavy lifting to help the over hit?

King totals seven TDs in win

Houston quarterback D'Eriq King accounted for seven touchdowns in last Saturday's 57-36 home win over South Florida. King went 28-of-40 through the air for 419 yards and five touchdowns plus two interceptions. He also rushed 12 times for 132 yards and two scores. Patrick Carr had 16 carries for 68 yards, while Mulbah Car had seven rushes for 28 yards and a TD. Jeremy Singleton had five receptions for 125 and a touchdown. Marquez Stevenson made six catches for 106 yards and two TDs. Courtney Lark had four catches for 85 and a touchdown. Raelon Singleton had two receptions for 36 yards and a TD. The Cougars led 43-36 through three quarters before putting it away with two more TDs in the fourth. Houston improves to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

SMU falls in overtime

An intereption returned for a touchdown sent the Mustangs to a 26-20 home loss in overtime to Cincinnati last game. Ben Hicks was 22-of-43 through the air for 328 yards with two touchdowns plus the costly interception. Braeden West led the rushing attack with 11 carries for a paltry 16 yards. Reggie Roberson Jr. accounted for seven catches for 147 yards and two TDs. James Proche had six receptions for 72 yards. Southern Methodist fell to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

College Football Betting Trends

Houston

The over is 4-0 in the last four Cougars game on field turf. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

Southern Methodist

The under is 7-1 in the last eight Mustangs games after accumulating 280 or more passing yards the previous game. The under is 5-1 in the last six Mustangs games against an opponent with a winning road record.

Prediction:

Houston's offense has the ability to torch anyone, but Southern Methodist plays at a slower pace and might be able to set the tempo playing at home. The three times the Mustangs have had a total this high this season, it went under three straight times. I'm going to say Saturday night marks a fourth under in that scenario.

PREDICTION: HOUSTON COUGARS/SOUTHERN METHODIST MUSTANGS UNDER 71.5
