Zips gaining steam
Akron is coming off a 17-10 win over Central Michigan at home this weekend for a two-game win streak. The Zips are now 4-3 overall, 2-2 in the MAC, 3-4 against the spread and 5-2 with the under. Their cover last week snapped a three-game losing streak at the betting window.
The Zips have been pretty respectable on defense as well, allowing 23.6 points and 368 yards per game. Their run defense has been shaky, allowing 152.4 yards per game. On offense, Akron is putting up 22.4 points and 315.3 yards per game. Kato Nelson has thrown for 1,348 yards and nine touchdowns with seven interceptions. He also has run for 315 yards. Van Edwards Jr. is the leading rusher with 379 yards and three scores.
NIU perfect in the MAC
The Northern Illinois football team in on a four-game win streak following a 7-6 win at BYU this past weekend. The Huskies are now 5-3 overall, 4-0 in the MAC, 4-4 against the spread and 6-2 with the under. They have covered the spread in three of their last four games.
NIU hasn’t had much offense this year, but its defense has been stellar. The Huskies are allowing just 21.1 points and 344.5 yards per contest. On offense, NIU is putting up 17.1 points and 284.3 yards per contest. Marcus Childers has thrown for just 1,064 yards and eight touchdowns with five interceptions. He also has run for 261 yards and three scores. Tre Harbison is the leading rusher with 496 yards and three touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Akron has covered the spread in four straight games following a win and in seven of their last 10 games in November.
Northern Illinois is 2-5 ATS in their last seven Thursday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a win.
This could be a hard game to watch. The total is set incredibly low for a college football game. Akron hasn’t played much at home, but the results have been mixed. They were manhandled by Miami-Ohio already this year and now face a solid NIU team. The Huskies haven’t won a MAC game by more than 8 points all year, so the spread is a little scary. However, NIU is a storied MAC program and I trust them to handle their business on the road. NIU’s defense should be the story of this game.
College Football Prediction: Northern Illinois -6
