Maryland vs. Indiana Prediction
Which Big Ten team will pick up a needed win when Indiana plays host to Maryland today at 3:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Indiana is favored at home in this game, as the Hoosiers are getting odds of -3.5 points against the Terrapins. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 53 points. The road team has won both Big Ten meetings between these two, both also covering the spread in each win.
Maryland is coming off a 28-17 win over Michigan State at home last week. The Terrapins are now 5-2 on the season, 2-2 in the Big Ten and 3-4 against the spread. Maryland has a defense that has carried it this season, as the Terps are giving up just 20.6 points and 366 yards per game in 2016. However, they have struggled to stop the run, allowing 192.4 yards per game on the ground. When it comes to offense, Maryland is putting up 32.1 points and 410.4 yards per game. The Terps have a solid run game with a lot of different options in the backfield but Lorenzo Harrison and Ty Johnson are the main ball carriers, combining for 984 yards and eight touchdowns this year. Perry Hills has added 822 passing yards with eight touchdowns at the quarterback position despite missing some time due to injury.
Indiana is coming off a 24-14 loss at Northwestern last week for its third straight loss. The Hoosiers are now just 3-4 on the season, 1-3 in the Big Ten 3-4 against the spread. The Hoosiers are usually known for offense, but they are averaging just 24.1 points per game this season despite putting up 428.9 yards per contest. Richard Lagow has thrown for 1,973 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, but he has been a bit of a turnover machine as well, throwing 11 interceptions. Devine Redding is the leading rusher with 590 yards, but he has just one rushing touchdown on the season. Defensively, IU is giving up 25.1 points and 377.6 yards per game, including 160.4 rushing yards per contest.

After three straight games against the likes of Ohio State, Nebraska and Northwestern, Indiana should be eager to face a Maryland team that has struggled somewhat as of late. The Terps are going on the road for just the second time in Big Ten play, and I suspect that will be a problem, especially on offense. Look for this game to be a grind, but for Indiana to find a way to get past the Terrapins.
