Maryland vs. Indiana Pick
Will Indiana and Maryland find themselves in a shootout when the two Big Ten foes meet up on Saturday at 3:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Indiana is favored at home in this game, as the Hoosiers are getting odds of -5 points against the Terrapins. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 50.5 points. The road team has won both Big Ten meetings between these two and they have split the over/under total in the two meetings.
Maryland put an end to a 2-game losing streak last week when it beat Michigan State at home, 28-17. The Terrapins are now 5-2 on the season, 2-2 in the Big Ten and 6-1 with the under. The Terps are hitting the under so frequently due mostly to its defense. They are giving up just 20.6 points and 366 yards per game this season. However, they have struggled to stop the run, allowing 192.4 yards per game on the ground. When it comes to offense, Maryland is putting up 32.1 points and 410.4 yards per game. The Terps have a solid run game with a lot of different options in the backfield but Lorenzo Harrison and Ty Johnson are the main options, combining for 984 yards and eight touchdowns this year. Perry Hills has added 822 passing yards with eight touchdowns.
Indiana is coming off a 24-14 loss at Northwestern last week for its third straight loss. The Hoosiers are now just 3-4 on the season, 1-3 in the Big Ten and 6-1 with the under. The Hoosiers are usually known for offense, but they are averaging just 24.1 points per game this season despite putting up 428.9 yards per contest. Richard Lagow has thrown for 1,973 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, but also has 11 interceptions. Devine Redding is the leading rusher with 590 yards, but he has just one rushing touchdown. Defensively, IU is giving up 25.1 points and 377.6 yards per game, including 160.4 rushing yards per contest.
Both teams have been strong with the under and there isn’t much reason to think that won’t be the case on Saturday. Maryland has a pretty solid defense that should be able to keep an average IU offense in check. The Hoosiers have really struggled to finish drives and their red zone opportunities will be limited against the Terps. Maryland isn’t likely to rack up a lot of points itself because it isn’t that great of an offense either.
