Texas defeated
Oklahoma 16-13 in the Red River Rivalry last Saturday to get past is biggest foe on the road to the Big XII title. Despite a 6-0 record, the Longhorns have underwhelmed this season and are 1-4-1 against the spread. One strong point for
Texas has been on defense, where the Longhorns lead the country in rushing defense, allowing just 225 yards on the ground through six games and limiting opponents to 1.3 yards per-carry on the year.
Texas currently ranks sixth in total defense, holding opponents to 247.7 yards per-game. While the defense is soaring, the offense has struggled. Colt McCoy has thrown for 1,537 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season, but has seven interceptions as well. Vondrell McGee has rushed for 260 yards and two scores on the season while Tre’Newton has 203 yards and three scores. The lone bright spot may be Jordan Shipley who has caught 51 passes for 605 yards and three scores. D.J. Monroe has also done well as a return man, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns this season.
Missouri got off to a 4-0 start, but has lost back-to-back games to ranked opponents in
Nebraska and
Oklahoma
State. The Tigers scored just 29 combined points in the two losses. Along with the 0-2 mark in the Big XII, the Tigers are also 2-3 against the spread. Blaine Gabbert has thrown for 1,620 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season, with Danario Alexander catching 44 passes for 627 yards and five scores. In the running game, Derrick Washington has 416 yards on 98 carries with three scores. Defensively,
Missouri has performed well, holding opponents to just 20.3 points and 336.8 yards per-game.
