Houston vs. SMU Pick
Is the over a good bet to cash on Saturday night when SMU hosts Houston at 7:00PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Mustangs are now 21-point home underdog versus the Cougars after opening as a 21.5-point dog. As for the total, the number opened at 63 and as of this writing has not moved off that original spot.
The Cougars successfully rebounded with a 38-31 win over Tulsa one week after losing their first game of the season, a 46-40 defeat at Navy. The win over the Golden Hurricane gave Houston six wins on the year but the Cougars have failed to cover as double-digit favorites in back-to-back weeks. Houston is now 4-3 against the spread in 2016.
The Mustangs are also coming off a game against Tulsa two weeks ago, but they lost 43-40 as a 15-point road underdog. That loss was SMU’s third straight and now the Mustangs are 2-4 on the year and 4-2 against the spread. Quarterback Ben Hicks completed 29-of-52 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to Tulsa while Braeden West rushed 22 times for 124 yards and a touchdown.
OUR PREDICTION: The over has cashed in four of the last five meetings between these two teams when SMU is the host and is 5-1 in the Mustangs’ last six conference games. The over is also 12-3 in their last 15 games in October, 10-4 in their last 14 games versus a team with a winning record and 22-8 in their last 30 games coming off a straight up loss. The over is also 4-0 in the Cougars’ last four games overall and has hit in five of their last seven road games versus a team with a losing home record.
