Oregon Ducks
Oregon freshman T Penei Sewell will miss approximately six weeks with a high ankle sprain. Ducks HC Mario Cristobal made the announcement Tuesday. Sewell, Oregon’s starting left tackle, suffered the injury in Saturday’s game against Washington when a defender fell on his leg. Earlier this season, he became the first Oregon freshman offensive lineman to start a season opener since 1997. ESPN ranked the 6-foot-6, 345-pounder as the No. 129 overall player, the No. 6 guard, and the No. 1 prospect out of Utah in the 2018 recruiting class. Oregon shifted starting RT Calvin Throckmorton to the left side following Sewell’s injury against the Huskies. Oregon will have to decide if they want to use Throckmorton on the right or left side going forward, and whether they want to roll with backup LT George Moore or backup RT Brady Aiello as a starter for the next month and a half.
Washington State Cougars
Washington State senior QB Gardner Minshew completed 30-of-40 passes for 430 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday’s 56-37 win at Oregon State. Minshew threw for 2,140 yards, 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2017 as the starter for East Carolina in four starts and parts of 10 games. The graduate transfer is already up to 2,422 yards with 19 TDs and just four INTs in six starts while also posting two rushing scores. He has thrown for at least 319 yards in all six of his starts this season. He’ll look to keep it going in two weeks against Oregon.
